Men's Soccer Begins Conference Play Against Heidelberg

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team will begin Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) competition on Saturday against Heidelberg University at 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Heidelberg, the Fightin' Quakers are 7-2-1 after a 1-1 draw with Anderson (Ind.) last Saturday. The Student Princes are 2-5-1 after a 1-0 loss to Defiance on Saturday.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his second year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Pat Svihlik is in his fourth season as head men's soccer coach at Heidelberg after serving as assistant men's and women's soccer coach at Notre Dame College. He has coached the Student Princes to a combined 24-23-4 record.

The Players: Elorm Dogbey continues to lead Wilmington in scoring with nine goals while also contributing two assists. Zach Burgmeier has dished out the most assists with five and has scored four goals of his own. The Quakers have averaged scoring four goals per game with 40 goals. Felix Maurer has started every game as goalkeeper for the Quakers, recording 17 saves and participating in six shutouts. Kyle Morton leads the Student Princes in goals with two. Ryan Newman has played every minute for Heidelberg, recording 39 saves and eight goals allowed. 

Series History: Wilmington is 10-10-2 against Heidelberg since 1993, the Quakers took a 2-0 loss to the Student Princes in 2018.
