WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team surrendered the first three goals of the game only to get within a single goal of a comeback in a 4-2 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) road loss at Otterbein University on Wednesday evening.

The Cardinals dominated the first half defensively by not allowing the Fightin' Quakers to shoot once in the first 45 minutes. During that stretch, the hosts fired five shots including four on goal. Wilmington's goalkeeper, Felix Maurer, saved three of them, but midway through the half, Zach Burwick took a Pau Piang pass and beat Maurer.

Down 1-0 on the road, the Quakers played a much better second half as Otterbein held a slim 9-7 edge in shots taken. Once again, however, it was the Cardinals who struck first as Seth Smith beat Maurer just over two minutes into the half to make the score 2-0. Less than 10 minutes later, things went from bad to worse for Wilmington has Nicholas Flury shots with a high shot.

Zach Burgmeier immediately answered as he took a Michael Owusu pass and scored 39 seconds later to get Wilmington on the board. Both teams then traded shots until Ian Molfenter took a pass from Kevin Kamara and fired a shot low into the left corner of the goal to get Wilmington within a goal.

This time it was Otterbein's turn for a quick answer as Liam Heard closed the door on a Quaker comeback with a goal in the 82nd minute.

Otterbein (10-5-0, 4-2-0 OAC) held a 14-7 edge in shots including a 9-2 margin in shots on goal. Both teams earned seven corner kicks.

Maurer took the loss for the Quakers making five saves while Collin Hoffman earned the win despite making a save.

Wilmington (10-4-2, 3-2-1 OAC) looks to stop a two-game skid on Saturday when Baldwin Wallace University comes to Williams Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.
