Men's Soccer Faces No. 19 Mount Union in Key OAC Match

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team travels to the University of Mount Union for a 1 p.m. Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contest on Saturday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Mount Union, the Fightin' Quakers are 9-2-1, 2-0-0 OAC after a 5-0 domination of Muskingum University on Wednesday. The Purple Raiders are 7-1-2, 1-0-1 OAC after a 1-1 draw with John Carroll on Wednesday, the Raiders are ranked 19th in this week's United Soccer Coaches Rankings.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his second year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Carter Poe is in his fifth season as head men's soccer coach at Mount Union. His three previous seasons have included back-to-back appearances in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time in school history. Poe spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Purple Raiders before taking over as head coach.

The Players: Ian Molfenter has scored seven goals this season for the Quakers after having a two goal night against Muskingum. Zach Burgmeier leads Wilmington in assists with five and he has also scored six goals of his own. Felix Maurer has started every game at goalkeeper for the Quakers and has recorded 21 saves with only five goals allowed. Rylan Wikle has scored a team high four goals for the Raiders his season, Jon Schroeder has dished out two assists with one goal for himself and 15 shots recorded.Zach Hlas is the main goalkeeper for Mount Union with 32 saves and five goals allowed. 

Series History: The Quakers are 13-8-1 against the Raiders since 1993,Wilmington won the last meeting 2-1 in overtime in 2018.
