Men's Soccer to Host Ohio Northern for OAC Competition

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The WIlmington College men's soccer team hosts Ohio Northern University in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) competition on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Ohio Northern, the Fightin' Quakers are 9-2-2, 2-0-1 OAC after a scoreless draw with Mount Union on Saturday. The Polar Bears are 11-2-1, 3-0-0 OAC after defeating Muskingum 8-0 on Saturday. 

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his second year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Chris Matejka is the interim head coach at Ohio Northern, he had spent six seasons as assistant head coach before being named interim head coach.

The Players: Nati Wallis is one of the leading scorers for Wilmington with seven goals and three assists. Zach Burgmeier leads the Quakers in assists with five while also scoring six goals. Felix Maurer has started every game at goalkeeper for the Quakers, recording 24 saves with only five goals allowed and four solo shutouts. Levi King leads the Polar Bears in goals with seven and has also dished out five assists. John Lombardo has played nearly 1,300 minutes in goal for Ohio Northern, allowing 11 goals with 48 saves.

Series History: Wilmington is 14-11-2 against Ohio Northern since 1991.

Unbeaten Streak: Wilmington is unbeaten in its last four games, including three OAC match ups. The Quakers are currently in a tie for second place in the OAC standings.
