Baseball Hosts Asbury on Tuesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team continues a homestand with a home game against Asbury University (Kentucky) at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Asbury. The Quakers enter the contest with an 8-13 overall record and looking to snap a six-game losing skid after a pair of defeats to No. 5 Baldwin Wallace University at home on Sunday. The Eagles stand at 15-10 overall and currently riding a nine-game winning streak after defeating Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus in a pair of games on Thursday.

The Coaches: Tony Vittorio, who formerly led the University of Dayton's baseball program for 18 seasons, is in his fifth season as Wilmington's head coach in 2023. He helped lead the Quakers to a 21-19 overall record last season. Manny Cervantes is in his ninth season as Asbury's head coach having become the school's first full-time head coach in 2014.

The Hitters: A quartet of Quakers - Tyler Shaneyfelt, Jesse Reliford, Dominic Depa and Evan Kelsey - hit over a .290 clip and have tallied at least 20 hits on the season. Shaneyfelt leads the team in batting average (.321) along with runs scored (27) and stolen bases (19-for-19). Kelsey has driven in 13 runs while Depa has a team-best four doubles. Three Eagles - Quinn Nobles, Ethan Cartwright and Kaden Dugle - have drive in 20-plus runs with Nobles and Cartwright hitting over a .400 clip on the season.

The Pitchers: Aaron Boster leads the Wilmington pitching staff in starts (7), wins (3), innings pitched (46.1) and strikeouts (51) having most recently received a no-decision in an eight-inning outing against the nationally-ranked Yellow Jackets on Sunday. Brody Bearden leads the Asbury staff with a 3.24 ERA and 25 innings pitched. Holten Handel has struckout 19 batters for the Eagles.

Series History: Wilmington is 2-2 against Asbury in the last five seasons. The Eagles won the first matchup of the season - 15-5 in seven innings on March 21. More information on the series history can be found by visiting the link above.
