Baseball Heads to Otterbein for Season Finale on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team heads to Otterbein University for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) series at Otterbein University on Saturday. The season finale twinbill is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Otterbein. The Quakers enter the series with a 16-21 record and a 4-14 mark in league contests after splitting a Senior Day series with John Carroll University last weekend. The Cardinals stand at 24-11 and 9-7 in league contests. Otterbein travels to Washington & Jefferson College for a non-conference series on Thursday.

The Coaches: Tony Vittorio, who formerly led the University of Dayton's baseball program for 18 seasons, is in his fifth season as Wilmington's head coach in 2023. He helped lead the Quakers to a 21-19 overall record last season. George Powell, the longest-tenured coach in the OAC, is in his 24th season as the Cardinals' skipper. The six-time OAC Coach of the Year has a career record of 569-403-1.

The Hitters: Five Quakers - Evan Eilerman, Owen Baumann, Evan Kelsey, Tyler Shaneyfelt and Dominic Depa - hit over .300 on the season with Shaneyfelt leading the team in runs scored (53) and stolen bases (36). Both are program single-season records and tops in the OAC. Kelsey leads WC in hits (47) while Caleb Scott has driven in 30 runs. Otterbein's offense features three individuals - Gavin Wolf, Jamie Perebzak and Noah Sprowls - that have hit at least a dozen doubles. Wolf leads the team in average at a .404 clip while Brayden Quincel has left the yard a dozen times.

The Pitchers: Aaron Boster is the ace of the Quaker pitching staff as the junior has struck out 87 batters in 67.1 innings including most recently breaking the program's single game record with a 19-strikeout effort and a win against John Carroll. Fellow Southpaw Zach Shepherd carries a 3-1 record and boasts a 2.11 ERA. Jesse Reliford as a team-high eight saves. For Otterbein, which carries a 5.14 ERA, Luke Walter and Jackson Peloquin have both pitched over 50 innings and carry ERAs of 2.81 and 3.76 respectively.
