WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team returns to Tewksbury-Delaney Field on Wednesday for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) series with Capital University on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Quakers enter the matchup with an 11-18 overall record and a 1-9 record in league contests after a pair of defeats at nationally-ranked Marietta College over the weekend. The Comets stand at 6-20 and are in search of their first conference triumph having most recently lost two games at the University of Mount Union on Saturday.

The Coaches: Tony Vittorio, who formerly led the University of Dayton's baseball program for 18 seasons, is in his fifth season as Wilmington's head coach in 2023. He helped lead the Quakers to a 21-19 overall record last season. Scott Manahan, a Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Famer, is in his second season as the Comets' head coach. Both coaches played collegiate baseball with Vittorio playing at Hanover College (class of 1988) and Manahan at Ashland University (class of 1985).

The Hitters: A quartet of Quakers - Owen Baumann, Tyler Shaneyfelt, Evan Eilerman and Jesse Reliford - hit at least a .300 clip with Baumann's .347 average leading the team. Shaneyfelt leads WC in stolen bases (27), hits (35) and runs scored (39) while Reliford has drawn 21 walks. Caleb Scott is heating up of late as the fifth-year senior has seven doubles and a team-best 21 RBIs. For Capital, Wilson Hunter has a .352 batting average, 15 walks and 10 stolen bases  with Christophew Rockwell driving in a squad-best 18 runs for the Comets.

The Pitchers: The Wilmington pitching staff has three individuals - Aaron Boster, Kaleb Stines and Trent Mendenhall - that have logged over 30 innings. Boster leads the team in innings pitched (53.1), strikeouts (59) and is tied with Stines with three victories. Freshman Zach Shepherd carries a 2.70 ERA in 23.1 innings with a win, coming against Heidelberg University, on the season. Capital has two pitchers - Curtis Clark and Kyle Bowles - that have through over 20 innings. Clark leads the team with 26 innings to go along with 22 strikeouts. 

Series History: Since 2009, Wilmington is 10-18 against Capital. The Quakers have, however, won the last six meetings. More information on the series history can be found by visiting the link above.
