Baseball Opens Conference Slate at Muskingum on Sunday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team heads to Muskingum University for the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener for both schools on Sunday (note the day change). The twinbill is slated to begin at 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Muskingum. The Quakers enter the weekend with an even 8-8 record and looking to rebound from a 15-5 defeat in seven innings at Asbury University on Tuesday. The Fighting Muskies stand at 9-3 and travel to Franciscan University on Thursday.

The Coaches: Tony Vittorio, who formerly led the University of Dayton's baseball program for 18 seasons, is in his fifth season as Wilmington's head coach in 2023. He helped lead the Quakers to a 21-19 overall record last season. Jake Krupar, a 2017 alumnus of the University of Toledo, is in his first season as Muskingum's head baseball coach. He spent the 2022 season on staff of at Butler University. 

The Hitters: A quartet of Quakers - Tyler ShaneyfeltDominic Depa, Jesse Reliford and Evan Kelsey - hit over a .330 clip with Shaneyfelt leading the way at .351. Both Shaneyfelt and Kelsey have combined for 24 stolen bases with Kelsey, Reliford and Jared Lammert tallying double-digit RBIs. The Muskies are hitting .388 as a team with Weston Melick and Sam Palmieri hitting over a .450 clip. The two have combined to drive in 31 runs. 

The Pitchers: Aaron Boster leads the Wilmington pitching staff with a 2.59 ERA in 31.1 innings pitched to go along with a 10.91 strikeouts-per-nine-innings ratio. Trent Mendenhall, Zach Shepherd and Mac Davis all boast ERAs under 5.00. Jake Roshau leads the Muskingum staff in innings having logged 23.2 to date and has a 4.18 ERA.

OAC Pitcher of the Week: Boster is the reigning Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Pitcher the Week.

Series History: Wilmington is 6-22 against Muskingum since the 2009 season. The teams split a twinbill at Tewksbury-Delaney Field last season. More information on the series history can be found by visiting the link above.
