SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team heads to Franklin College for a 3 p.m. contest on Wednesday afternoon.

The Teams: Wilmington and Franklin. The Quakers enter the game with a 5-7 overall record, however have won five of the last six games including winning a three-game series against Earlham this past weekend. Wilmington snagged game one the first day 15-3 and split the doubleheader the next day. The Grizzlies stand at 6-4 on the season after also winning a three-game series against Albion. Franklin split the doubleheader the first day and grabbed game three 5-3. 

The Coaches: Tony Vittorio, who formerly led the University of Dayton's baseball program for 18 seasons, is in his fifth season as Wilmington's head coach in 2023. He helped lead the Quakers to a 21-19 overall record last season. Lance Marshall was named Franklin's head baseball coach in August of 1997. He's also an associate director of athletics at the College.

The Hitters: Evan Kelsey and Tyler Shaneyfelt are bot batting .340 and .348 respectively with a combined 17 stolen-bases and 26 runs scored. Dominic Depa has a team leading 3 doubles and adds 15 hits to his clip. Jesse Reliford leads the team in walks with eight. Adam Taylor leads the Franklin offense with a .308 batting average while Sean Sullivan and Noah Wood have combined for five homeruns this season. 

The PitchersAaron Boster leads Wilmington in innings pitched at 24.1 and is coming off a hot start and win against Earlam in which he struck out 10 batters over only 6 innings pitched. Reliford Trent Mendenhall are also lighting up the strikezone, both having over 9 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched. Mac Davis and Kaleb Stines both have over 7 innings pitched while Stines is sporting a pristine 0.00 ERA and Davis a solid 2.53 ERA. Matthew Johnson continues to stay hot for the Grizzlies as he has a 1.20 ERA over 15 innings pitched.  He also adds 25 strikeouts with a 2-1 overall record.  

Series History: Wilmington is 5-6 against Franklin since the 2008 season. The teams have split the season series each of the last two years. Most recently, the Quakers won its home-opener against the Grizzlies 7-4. More information on the series history can be found by visiting the link above.
