Women's Soccer Heads to Hiram for First Road Test on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team faces its first road test of the 2022 season on Wednesday when the Fightin' Quakers head to Northeast Ohio to face Hiram College. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Hiram. The Fightin' Quakers enter the game with an 0-1-0 record after falling to Oberlin College 1-0 on a penalty kick in the Quakers' season opener on Saturday. The Terriers are an even 1-1-1 on the year having most recently battled Bluffton University to a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

The Coaches: Nick Kinder, a 2010 alumnus and four-year member of the men's soccer program, enters his first year as head women's soccer coach. He has spent the last four seasons as the program's top assistant coach including the last six weeks leading the program on an interim basis following the retirement of 30-year Head Coach Steve Spirk. He is just the fifth head coach in the 37-year history of the program as a varsity sport. Kaela Kovanda is in her second season as Hiram's head coach. She is a 2017 graduate of Malone University.

The Players: Seven different Quakers - Katie Bradford, Heidi Edens, Haley Fulton, Jada Pohlen, Maddie Scott, Madison VanSuch and Alex Wilson - took one shot in the season-opener against Hiram. Bradford and Scott's shots were on target. Goalkeeper Lauren Galloway took the loss on the penalty kick goal and tallied five saves in the contest. A trio of Terriers - Ashley Sandru, Eimly Turk and Kylie Hudson - have all netted goals for Hiram.
