Women's Soccer Opens OAC Play with John Carroll on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team opens Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play by hosting John Carroll University on Saturday. Kickoff from Williams Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and John Carroll (JCU). The Fightin' Quakers finished the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 6-3-0 record having most recently fallen 2-0 at DePauw University on Tuesday evening. The Blue Streaks are 3-4-2 overall and host Penn State University Behrend on Wednesday. 

The Coaches: Nick Kinder, a 2010 alumnus and four-year member of the men's soccer program, enters his first year as head women's soccer coach. He has spent the last four seasons as the program's top assistant coach including the last six weeks leading the program on an interim basis following the retirement of 30-year Head Coach Steve Spirk. He is just the fifth head coach in the 37-year history of the program as a varsity sport. Michael Marich, a 2003 graduate of the University of Akron, is in his 11th season as JCU's head women's soccer coach. He's led the Blue Streaks to 86 victories in his tenure.

The Players: Shannon Jamieson leads the Wilmington offense with 15 points (five goals and five assists) on just 11 shots with four of her goals being from the penalty spot. Alex Wilson, also a freshman, has taken a team-high 31 shots and netted four goals whiel two other Quakers - Maddie Scott and Elizabeth Matthews - have found the back of the net multiple times. The WC defense, anchored by goalkeeper Lauren Galloway, allows less than a goal per contest. Emily Patrzyk has scored eight of JCU's 16 goals on the season while a trio of Blue Streaks - Patryzk, Lauren Gumeny and Claire Hollern - have assisted on multiple goals.

Series History: Wilmington is 10-9-7 against JCU since joining the OAC prior to the 2000 season. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
