Women's Soccer Hosts Oberlin on Saturday to Open 2022 Season

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team kicks off its 2022 campaign with a home game against Oberlin College under the lights at Williams Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Oberlin. The Fightin' Quakers finished the 2021 fall season with a 6-10-2 overall record including a 3-5-1 mark in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) competition. The Yeowomen were 7-8-1 a year ago and 3-4-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) games. 

The Coaches: Nick Kinder, a 2010 alumnus and four-year member of the men's soccer program, enters his first year as head women's soccer coach. He has spent the last four seasons as the program's top assistant coach including the last six weeks leading the program on an interim basis following the retirement of 30-year Head Coach Steve Spirk. He is just the fifth head coach in the 37-year history of the program as a varsity sport. Taylor Houck is Oberlin's head women's soccer coach. 

The Players: Maddie Scott returns from her senior season having led the team in scoring with four goals and two assists for a total of 10 points. Haley Fulton, Elizabeth Matthews and Heidi Edens also return having tallied four-plus points a season ago. Lauren Galloway, a three-year starter in net, also returns for her senior campaign having tallied 138 saves and six shutouts in the fall of 2021. Heather Benway returns for her sophomore season at Oberlin having led the team offensively with four goals and five assists in the fall of 2021. 

Series History: Wilmington is a perfect 9-0-0 against Oberlin dating back to the 1986 season. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
