WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team conceded two first half penalty kicks resulting in a 1-0 loss to Oberlin College in the season-opener for the Fightin' Quakers on Saturday evening.

The Quaker defense faltered in the first half as two unfortunate stumbles gave Oberlin College two free chances at goal. Adrienne Sato sank the first of the two penalty kicks. Late in the first half, Sofia Mitchell was awarded a penalty kick but she was unable to fool veteran goalkeeper Lauren Galloway who blocked the kick and corralled the rebound.

The WC back line really seemed to find a rhythm after those tense moments and held Oberlin scoreless the rest of the match. Unfortunately, the Wilmington offense was unable to find the same rhythm and was held scoreless, ultimately falling 1-0 to Oberlin. The Yeowomen held a 11-7 edge in shots including by a 6-2 margin in shots on goal. Heather Benway fired three shots for Oberlin while seven Quakers all took a single shot Galloway saved five shots allowing one penalty kick goal. Goalkeeper Benji Maddox is now 2-0 on the season.

Wilmington will travel to Hiram College for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday evening.
