Women's Soccer Defeated by Wooster 3-2

*Story by Alex Trevino

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team scored on each of its two penalty kicks, but the Fightin' Quakers were unable to find their way to a third goal and fell to The College of Wooster by a final score of 3-2 on Saturday evening.

The Wilmington defense was tested early in the match as Wooster scored on its first shot of the night. Five minutes into the game and Hallie Krzys did what no other team had been able to do, score in live action. The Quakers settled in quite well after that and held Wooster to just two more shots on goal the rest of the half. On the offensive end, Wilmington probed the Wooster defense, and in the 16th-minute, a hand ball in the goal box gave Wilmington a penalty kick, which Shannon Jamieson cleanly knocked home to even the score at 1-1. Wilmington outshot the Fighting Scots 7-3 in the first half, but couldn't break through again.

In a similar fashion to its first half, Wooster scored in the first five minutes of the second half on a Emma Jaros unassisted goal which gave the Scots a 2-1 lead. The Quakers pressed the offense and were able to draw another hand ball penalty on the Scots. On this occasion, it would be Elizabeth Matthews knocking home the penalty kick to again draw the Quakers even at 2-2. The good feelings were short lived, however, as Maggie Stieby scored in the 69th minute to give Wooster a lead it would not surrender. The Quakers again outshot Wooster, but were not able to finish in the final third despite several chances.

Shannon Jamieson scored her third goal of the season on her penalty kick, and Elizabeth Mathews scored her second goal on her penalty kick. Hallie Krzys recorded her team leading sixth goal of the season. Wooster goalkeeper Amanda Flory earned her first win on the season. Goalkeeper Lauren Galloway recorded the loss for the Quakers.

Up next, Wilmington will face Manchester on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Williams Stadium.
