Men's Basketball Looks for Winning Streak at ONU Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's basketball team looks to improve to 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) on Wednesday when the Fightin' Quakers head to Ada, Ohio, for a 7 p.m. game with the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University.

The Teams: Wilmington and Ohio Northern (ONU). The Quakers stand at 2-5 on the season, but opened OAC play with a come-from-behind, 71-69 win over Heidelberg University at Fred Raizk Arena on Saturday. The Polar Bears are 2-3 and lost to the University of Mount Union 81-60 in their OAC opener on Saturday.

The Coaches: K.C. Hunt is in his 13th season as head coach of Wilmington's men's basketball program. Hunt, who has coached two All-Americans and seven of the school's 1,000-point scorers, led the Quakers to OAC Tournament titles in 2010 and 2014. He garnered Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honors for guiding Wilmington to OAC Tournament title and a win in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2010. Rich Bensman is in his eighth season on the ONU sidelines including his fourth as head coach.

The Players: Jeffery Mansfield and DaeShawn Jackson lead Wilmington in scoring and rebounding as well as being in the top three in assists through seven contests this season. Mansfield scored 18.7 points per game to go along with 3.7 rebounds per contest while Jackson, who scores 14.7 points per game, leads the squad in rebounding with 5.9 boards per game. Payton Smith dishes out a team-high 4.1 assists per game. C.J. Napier leads ONU in scoring (17.8 points per game) and rebounding (6.8 boards per contest) while Landen Long also scores in double figures at 13.0 points per game.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 71.0, ONU 66.2; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 77.6, ONU 74.0; field goal percentage – Wilmington 41.3, ONU 41.3; three-point percentage – Wilmington 29.7, ONU 31.3; free throw percentage – Wilmington 71.0, ONU 74.6; rebounds per game – Wilmington 30.6, ONU 33.2; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.96, ONU 0.80.

Recent History: Wilmington is 17-25 against Ohio Northern since becoming an NCAA Division III member in 1991. The Quakers have won the last three meetings, however. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
