CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's basketball team rebounded from a loss yesterday evening to defeat Mount St. Joseph University (MSJ) 83-69 on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Neither team led by more than four points through the first nine minutes until a Sammy Robbins triple gave the Lions a 26-21 lead. The Fightin' Quakers answered with an eight-point run, all from Jeffery Mansfield to regain a 29-26 edge.

The hosts tied it 31-31 on a pair of free throws at the 5:42 mark, but the visitors went on a 10-0 spurt fueled by Mansfield and Noah Dado to take a double-digit lead. Peyton Meadors ended the run with a pair of free throws and Wilmington took the 41-33 lead into halftime.

Wilmington opened the second half scoring the first six points that all but put the game away. The closest MSJ got was nine points (53-44) with 13 minutes to play.

Both teams shot over 40 percent from the field with Wilmington connected on 31-of-63 (49.2 percent) of its field goal attempts compared to 20-of-29 (40.8 percent) for MSJ. The Lions made three more triples and five more free throws, but couldn't overcome a 38-22 rebounding edge for the Quakers.

Individually, Abdul Kanu turned in a career-high 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting to go along with six rebounds. Colin Myers had 15 points including three triples while Mansfield and DaeShawn Jackson also finished in double figures in scoring. Dado had seven points and six rebounds off the bench.

"We had a much better competitive spirit today, rebounded better and definitely shared the ball at a much higher level," Head Coach K.C. Hunt said. "It was a good bounce back game for us today." 

Joel Day led MSJ with 16 points in defeat.

Wilmington (1-1) returns to action on Nov. 23 with a trip to the College of Wooster.
