WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's basketball team begins its 2019-20 season with a pair of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) opponents this weekend. The Fightin' Quakers will face Transylvania University on Friday at 6 p.m. followed by host Mount St. Joseph University (MSJ) at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Teams: Wilmington, Transylvania and MSJ. The Fightin' Quakers finished the 2018-19 season with a 17-8 overall record and came one game away from clinching a share of their first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular season championship. The Pioneers, who were picked to win the HCAC in the preseason poll, finished 17-10 last year while the Lions were 8-17.

The Coaches: K.C. Hunt is in his 13th season as head coach of Wilmington's men's basketball program. Hunt, who has coached two All-Americans and seven of the school's 1,000-point scorers, led the Quakers to OAC Tournament titles in 2010 and 2014. He garnered Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honors for guiding Wilmington to OAC Tournament title and a win in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2010. Brian Lane is in his 19ths season as the head coach of his alma mater while Toby Carrigan, a former Lane assistant, has been MSJ's head man for seven seasons.

The Players: DaeShawn Jackson returns for his senior season for Wilmington having averaged 14.7 points to lead Wilmington offensively last season. Abdul Kanu and Jeffery Mansfield both scored over seven points per contest while Mansfield is the top returning rebounder with 3.8 per contest. Transylvania returns its top two scorers in Michael Jefferson and Gabe Schmidt. The two combined for nearly 25 points in 2018-19. Two MSJ sophomores – Devin Young and Brady Thomas – scored in double figures as freshman.
