Baseball To Face Otterbein for OAC Series This Weekend

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College baseball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with four scheduled games against Otterbein University this weekend. The Fightin' Quakers will travel to Westerville for a pair of games on Saturday before hosting the Cardinals for a single game on Tuesday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Otterbein. The Quakers are 2-13 overall and 1-10 in OAC play after falling in 3-of-4 games to Muskingum University over the weekend. The Cardinals are 5-7 overall and 2-6 in conference play after being swept by Baldwin Wallace University over the weekend.

The Coaches: The 2021 season continues the new era for Wilmington College baseball team as the head coach Tony Vittorio starts his third season in charge of the program. He most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dayton for 18 seasons. George Powell has been Otterbein's head coach for the past 22 seasons and has led the Cardinals to seven NCAA Division III Tournaments during that span.

The Hitters: Jesse Reliford is the lone Quaker to tally double-digits in RBIs with 14. Evan Kelsey and Caleb Scott have both batted in nine runs. Kelsey is one of Wilmington's best hitters for average with a .314 average. Luke Barber leads Otterbein most statistical categories including batting average (.478), hits (22), RBIs (16) and walks (10). Dmitri Collaros has stolen three bases for the Cardinals.

The Pitchers: The Wilmington pitching staff carries a team earned run average in the double digits. Of those who have pitched over an inning, Tyler Shaneyfelt has a team-best 5.40 ERA in over six innings while Luke Chappie has struck out 21 batters in 26 innings. Nicky Zorne and Travis Burson both have 2.45 ERAs for Otterbein in a combined 18.1 innings pitched.

Series History: Wilmington is 5-22 against Otterbein since the 2009 season. The Cardinals took 3-of-4 games at Day Air Ballpark in a non-conference series to open the season in March. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
