WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College baseball team begins Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a four-game series with Baldwin Wallace University this weekend. The Fightin' Quakers will travel to Berea for a doubleheader on Saturday and host the Yellow Jackets for a twinbill on Sunday. Both days are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Baldwin Wallace (BW). The Quakers are 1-3 on the season after winning the final game of a non-conference series with Otterbein University 9-8 in the 10th inning at Day Air Ballpark, home of the Dayton Dragons. The Yellow Jackets are also 1-3 on the season having tallied a 12-4 win over John Carroll University.

The Coaches: The 2021 season continues the new era for Wilmington College baseball team as the head coach Tony Vittorio starts his third season in charge of the program. He most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dayton for 18 seasons. George Harrison is in his 11th season as BW's head baseball coach. He's led the Yellow Jackets to NCAA Regional titles in 2014 and 2019. Harrison served as Vittorio's hitting coach at Dayton before coming to Baldwin Wallace.

The Hitters: Caleb Scott and Jesse Reliford lead Wilmington with four RBIs apiece. Scott has a team-best .400 average to go along with four walks while Reliford had the game-winning hit in the Quakers' win, a walk-off double that scored two runs. Tyler Shaneyfelt has stolen a team-high three stolen bases. Alex Ludwich has a .529 batting average to lead BW while Alexis Castille has three home runs and a team-best nine RBIs.

The Pitchers: Luke Chappie, Wilmington's starter in game one of the Otterbein series, carries a 2.57 ERA in seven-plus innings pitched to go along with five strikeouts. Aaron Boster pitched three innings in his first collegiate start, striking out four and allowing one earned run. Three Quakers – GlenAllen Anderson, Marc Davis and Luke Kleindl – have all pitched an inning or less of scoreless baseball. Three of BW's starting pitchers – Dawson Gabe, Drew Wilson and Kyle Maruna – all have ERAs under 3.50. Wilson got the Yellow Jackets' win, pitching a quality start while Dawson Gabe also had a quality start with nine strikeouts in six innings.
