SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College baseball team begins its 2021 season with a four-game, non-conference series against Otterbein University this weekend. The series, which features two games on both Saturday and Sunday, will be played at Day Air Ballpark, home of the Dayton Dragons. Opening pitch each day is slated for 11 a.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Otterbein. The Fightin' Quakers will look to improve upon an 0-8 record in a season shortened by COVID-19 a year ago. Wilmington welcomes three new assistant coaches as well as 19 newcomers to the program to achieve that feat. The Cardinals, who have won either Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular season or tournament titles the last four seasons, ended the shortened 2019 season with an 8-5 record. Otterbein is looking for a fourth consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in 2021.

The Coaches: The 2021 season continues the new era for Wilmington College baseball team as the head coach Tony Vittorio starts his third season in charge of the program. He most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dayton for 18 seasons. George Powell has been Otterbein's head coach for the past 22 seasons and has led the Cardinals to seven NCAA Division III Tournaments during that span.

The Hitters: Wilmington returns seniors Joe Legin (OF) and Luke Kleindl (DH) as well as junior Aaron Burns (C) to the lineup this season. In the last full season (2019), Kleindl hit a .307 clip with 20 RBIs, eight doubles and three home runs. Caleb Scott and Corbin Craft also join the program to bolster the lineup. Otterbein brings back a talented and experienced core in Luke Barber (OAC's home run leader), Dmitri Callaros, Adam Stotler, Sam Edgell and Matthew Gibson.

The Pitchers: Wilmington will rely on Luke Chappie and Luke Kleindl as returners to the pitching staff. The Quakers also welcome several newcomers including GlenAllen Anderson, Jesse Reliford, Ryan Townsend, Tyler Shaneyfelt and Aaron Boster. Otterbein returns two experienced starters in Travis Engard and Ethan Doty along with several Cardinals out of the bullpen.

OAC Fan Policy: The OAC President's Council has updated its spectator policy to allow two individuals per student-athlete to attend home contests.
