Baseball Faces Muskingum in Weekend Series

GAME PROGRAM - FRIDAY AT WC

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College baseball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with four scheduled games against Muskingum University this weekend. Wilmington will host Muskingum for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday followed by a twinbill in New Concord on Saturday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Muskingum. The Fightin' Quakers are 1-10 on the season and 0-7 in OAC play after falling to No. 10 Marietta College in three games last weekend. The Fighting Muskies are 2-3 overall and 2-1 in conference competition after taking 2-of-3 games against Capital University.

The Coaches: The 2021 season continues the new era for Wilmington College baseball team as the head coach Tony Vittorio starts his third season in charge of the program. He most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dayton for 18 seasons. Greg Thompson has been Muskingum's head baseball coach for 26 seasons. He's the program's all-time winningest coach by victories.

The Hitters: Caleb Scott and Jesse Reliford lead Wilmington with a combined 17 RBIs between the two. Scott has both of Wilmington's home runs as well as drawing seven walks. Of those with more than a dozen at bats, both Scott and Tyler Shaneyfelt have batting averages over a .250 clip. Brett Carson and Drew Dittoe lead Muskingum offensively with .333 batting averages. Gabe Rejonis joins Dittoe as the two Muskies to have hit home runs.

The Pitchers: Luke Chappie has been Wilmington's most effective starter thus far this season. Despite receiving two no-decisions, the sophomore has a 5.49 ERA with a dozen strikeouts in nearly 20 innings pitched. Mac Davis, GlenAllen Anderson and Luke Kleindl have also had success in limited relief work. Jake Norris, the lone Musky to have pitched over 10 innings this season, as 11 strikeouts in a dozen innings pitched with a 3.75 ERA.

Series History: Wilmington is 4-18 against Muskingum in the last decade. The Quakers won both matchups last season, however. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
