WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team couldn't keep Baldwin Wallace University off the scoreboard in a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contests at Tewksbury-Delaney Field on Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets won game one 14-4 in seven innings and took the nightcap 11-4.
In game one, BW got on the board first as Luke Vanderhaar singled home Alex Ludwick in the top of the first. Wilmington got the run back in the bottom half as Jesse Reliford, drew a walk with the bases loaded.
The Quakers couldn't suppress the Yellow Jacket offense, however, as BW scored at least a run in the next three innings to take a 7-1 lead. Wilmington cut the lead in half with a three-run bottom of the fifth, but the visitors came right back with a seven-run sixth inning to seal game one.
Kyle Maruna earned the win for Baldwin Wallace pitching the first four innings of the seven-inning contest. The BW bullpen didn't allow a hit over the final two innings. Tre Nixon took the loss for Wilmington, allowing six earned runs on 11 hits in four innings. Of the four relief pitchers used, Lincoln Howard was the lone Quaker not to surrender a run, scattering one hit with a strikeout in one inning.
Dudley Taw went 4-for-5 for BW while Ludwick, fresh off a two-home run game in game two of the series, tallied three hits and scored three runs. Tony LoParo joined Ludwick in that feat. Three Quakers – Tyler Shaneyfelt, Owen Baumann and Luke Kleindl – had one hit each.
In the nightcap, BW once against jumped out to an early lead, plating a run in the first and two in the second. The Quakers would score a run on an Owen Baumann sacrifice fly in the third and a Tyler Shaneyfelt RBI-single in the fifth, but similarly to game one, the visitors came up with a huge inning. In the seventh, BW batted around and scored seven runs on five hits to put the game away.
Reliford took the loss for Wilmington, allowing six earned runs on 11 hits in four innings pitched. Brendon Hink went five innings to get the win for BW, allowing two earned runs with two strikeouts.
Ludwick, who hit a home run in the game, went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead BW in the win. Evan Kelsey went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Quakers.
Wilmington (1-7, 0-4 OAC) will battle Marietta College for an OAC series next weekend.
