WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College baseball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with four scheduled games against Marietta College this weekend. The two squads will play a twinbill Don Schaly Stadium on Saturday followed by a single game at Tewksbury-Delaney Field at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Marietta. The Fightin' Quakers stand at 1-7 overall and 0-4 in conference competition after a four-game sweep at the hands of Baldwin Wallace University over the weekend. The Pioneers are 7-1 after winning 3-of-4 games against Ohio Northern University over the weekend.

The Coaches: The 2021 season continues the new era for Wilmington College baseball team as the head coach Tony Vittorio starts his third season in charge of the program. He most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dayton for 18 seasons. Brian Brewer has been the head coach at his alma mater for 18 seasons. Marietta has won two national championships under Brewer's guidance.

The Hitters: Caleb Scott and Jesse Reliford lead Wilmington with a combined 15 RBIs between the two. Scott has both of Wilmington's home runs as well as drawing six walks. Of those with more than a dozen at Bats, Luke Kleindl leads the squad with a .261 batting average. Zach Boyd leads Marietta with a staggering .633 batting average, seven doubles and 14 RBIs. Five other Pioneers - Trent Valentine, Turner Hill, Brady Cottom, Jared Weiss and Logan Vietmeier - all hit over a .440 clip.

The Pitchers: Luke Chappie has been Wilmington's most effective starter thus far this season. Despite receiving two no-decisions, the sophomore has a 2.40 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched. Mac Davis, GlenAllen Anderson and Luke Kleindl have also had success in limited relief work as all three Quakers have ERAs under 3.00. Marietta featured a very balanced pitching staff that carries a 1.92 ERA. Gino Sabatine has a team-best 15.0 innings pitched and has a 0.60 ERA with 13 strikeouts.
