Baseball to Host MSJ in Non-Conference Contest on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team steps out of conference play to host Mount St. Joseph University for a single game on Wendesday. First pitch from Tewksbury-Delaney Field is slated for 4 p.m.

The Teams – Wilmington and Mount St. Joseph (MSJ). The Fightin' Quakers enter the game with an even 17-17 overall record that featured a 5-2 record last week. WC most recently fell to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 16-9 on Sunday. The Lions are 13-20 overall and most recently split a series with Franklin College over the weekend.

The Coaches - Tony Vittorio, who formerly led the University of Dayton's baseball program for 18 seasons, enters his fourth season as Wilmington's head coach. For the first time in nearly a decade in 2021, the Quakers didn't finish 10th in the OAC, turning in an eighth-place finish with a 10-24 conference mark. Jeff Newman is in his ninth season as MSJ's skipper.

The Hitters - Zach Christensen and Caleb Scott both hit over .400 for Wilmington with Scott leading the team in hits (53), doubles (13) and a program-best 42 RBIs. Christensen is one of three Quakers - alongside Tyler Shaneyfelt and Evan Kelsey - to have stolen over a dozen bases. Shaleyfelt, who hits a .373 clip, leads the team with 23 swipes while Aaron Burns has left the park six times. Ryan Murray leads MSJ in several offensive categories including: hits (43), average (.374), triples (3), home runs (6) and RBIs (34).

The Pitchers - Tyler Shaneyfelt has a 2.60 ERA for Wilmington after a complete-game shutout of Heidelberg University on the weekend. Aaron Boster, who has struckout a program-record 62 batters thus far this season, has pitched 61.2 innings and carries a 5.25 ERA. Brice McGee and Ryan Caulfied both have under 3.50 ERAs for MSJ.
