Baseball Drops Games to DePauw and North Central

CARBONDALE, Illinois - The Wilmington College baseball team fell in two contests on Sunday, losing to DePauw University (Indiana) 16-0 in seven inning and 16-4 to North Central College (Illinois).

In the loss to DePauw, the Tigers struck for four-run innings in both the second and third innings and blew the game wide open with an eight-run, seven-hit bottom of the fifth. In total, DePauw tallied 17 hits while the Fightin' Quakers had three.
 
Michael Vallone earned the win, striking out nine batters in five innings pitched while Aaron Boster took the loss allowing nine hits and four earned runs in 2.2 innings. Mac Davis was the lone bright spot for the WC pitching staff in the game as he struck out two Tigers and didn't allow an earned run in 1.2 innings. Offensively, a trio of Tigers - Cameron Allen, Evan Barnes and Cameron Macon - had three-hit games while the Quakers had hits from Jacob Kalt, Caleb Scott and Aaron Burns.
 
In the defeat to North Central, the Cardinals scored at least a run in 6-of-9 innings including multiple runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take control. Wilmington's offensive output came via RBI hits from Jesse Reliford and Aaron Burns along with a hit by pitch and walk with the bases loaded. In total, the Quakers plated two in the fifth and two in the seventh.
 
Jason Shanner earned the win for North Central, striking out eight with five hits in five innings. David Ernst took the loss for WC allowing five earned runs on six hits with five walks in 2.2 innings. For the second time on the day, Davis was the lone pitcher to not allow an earned run as he closed out the final two outs. Rob Marinec and Paul Beverly had four-hit games with three and five RBIs respectively for NCC while Reliford and Burns and multi-hit contests for Wilmington.
 
The Quakers (1-2) take on Mount. St. Joseph University for a weekend series next weekend.
