Baseball Hosts Olivet in Three-Game Series

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team hosts Olivet College for a three-game series at Tewksbury-Delaney Field this weekend and into the beginning of next week.

The Schedule: The two teams will play a single game on Sunday at 3 p.m. followed by a doubleheader at noon on Monday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Olivet. The Fightin' Quakers are 7-4 overall over an 11-4 triumph over Franklin College on Thursday. The Comets are 3-4 and rebounded nicely from a four-game sweep at the hands of Earlham College to sweep Principia College in three games.

The Coaches: Tony Vittorio, who formerly led the University of Dayton's baseball program for 18 seasons, enters his fourth season as Wilmington's head coach. For the first time in nearly a decade in 2021, the Quakers didn't finish 10th in the OAC, turning in an eighth-place finish with a 10-24 conference mark. Shelby Dixon, a former All-HCAC pitcher at Transylvania University, is in his third season as the Comets' head coach.

The Hitters: A trio of Quakers - Dominic Depa, Evan Kelsey and Caleb Scott - have all driven in at least a dozen runs include Depa's team-best 17. He, alongside Aaron Burns, have left the park three times. Kelsey leads the squad in batting average (.480) and stolen bases (8). Sylas Wolf as a team-best 11 RBIs for Olivet while Gabriel Kirck hits for a .481 average.

The Pitchers: Wilmington has relied on a starter in Aaron Boster and a reliever in Jesse Reliford as the two most effective pitchers through a quarter of the season. Reliford has a 1.69 ERA with two runs and a save coming in 5.1 relief innings. Boster, who had perhaps his best out of his career in an eight-inning win over Franklin College on Tuesday, has a 4.43 ERA in a team-high 22.1 innings pitched and 25 strikeouts. Brendan Redding has been Olivet's best pitcher through the young season. The senior has pitched over 11 innings with a 3.18 ERA and 16 strikeouts.

OAC Hitter of the Week: Evan Kelsey, who hit .476 with 10 hits and two stolen bases last week, is this week's OAC Hitter of the week.

Series History: Wilmington has not played Olivet in the last decade.
