Baseball Bats its Way By Berea

BEREA, Kentucky - The Wilmington College baseball team's bats stayed hot as the Fightin' Quakers plated double-digit runs for the third straight game in a 15-4 non-conference win in seven innings at Berea College on Thursday evening.

The Mountaineers scored the first three runs of the game on three hits along with one WC error in the bottom of the first inning. Wilmington didn't trail for long, however, as Jared Lammert led off the second with a single, and after a steal of second, Dominic Depa tripled him home for the Quakers' first run of the game. RBI-doubles from Aaron Burn and Tyler Shaneyfelt to go along with and RBI-single from Jesse Reliford and a sacrifice fly from Caleb Scott put WC on top 5-3 after two complete.

A Noah Martin double scored Depa in the third and after a scoreless fourth inning from both sides, Burns left the yard for the fifth time this season, also scoring Depa in the top of the fifth. A solo home run from Berea in the bottom half would prove to be the final run of the game for the hosts as the visitors batting around and scored seven runs, three of which came off two triples, in the sixth to put the game away.

Austin Christmas won his second game of the year for Wilmington, allowing four earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts in five innings pitched. GlenAllen Anderson allowed just a single hit over the final two innings. For Berea, Christian Ortiz lost his second start of the season, allowing six earned runs on eight hits in four innings. Michael Vazquez and AJ Wylie both allowed runs out of the Mountaineers' bullpen.

Nine of the Quakers' hits were of the extra-base variety while four Quakers - Shaneyfelt, Reliford, Lammert and Burns - all stole a base. Depa finished 3-of-4 with two RBIs and four runs scored while Martin also turned in a three-hit contest. Andrew Dailey and Zion Clay had two hits each for Berea in defeat.

Wilmington (12-11) heads to No. 1 Marietta College for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) doubleheader on Saturday.
