Baseball Finishes Top 10 in Batting Average, Announces Team Awards

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College baseball team honored four individuals with team awards for their performance during the 2022 season. Additionally, the Fightin' Quakers finished ninth in NCAA Division III in batting average (.341).

Caleb Scott was named Team Most Valuable Player, Aaron Boster garnered Most Valuable Pitcher honors, Dominic Depa was the team's Newcomer of the Year and Dylan Montgomery was honored as the team's best practice player.

"We had several performers on the field this season which made this tough on our players and coaches to vote, but these four players were well deserving of winning the award that they won," Head Coach Tony Vittorio said.

Scott had one of the best individual offensive seasons in Wilmington history, hitting a .403 clip with a team-best 14 doubles, six home runs and program record 53 RBIs, shattering the old record of 40. He also led the Quakers in slugging at .603. He was named Second Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

On the mound, Boster shattered the program record strikeouts, fanning 73 batters in 72 innings to mark the first Quaker to strikeout 55 or more batters in the OAC era. The sophomore from Mason, Ohio, is also in the top 10 in wins (five) and innings pitched (72.0).

Depa, who was once named OAC Hitter of the Week, hit a .353 clip with 10 doubles, three home runs and 38 RBIs. The freshman also tallied 55 hits and played primarily third base on defense.

Montgomery, a freshman from Richweeds, Illinois, appeared in three games playing both catcher and infielder.

Wilmington, which set four program records, finished the year with a 21-19 record to mark the first winning season for the program since 2005. WC also finished sixth place in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) with an 8-10 record.
