WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team opens up Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play against Baldwin Wallace in a home double-header on Tuesday.
The Schedule: The Fightin' Quakers and Yellow Jackets will face off in game one at 1 p.m. with game two scheduled to start shortly after the conclusion.
The Teams: Wilmington and Baldwin Wallace. The Quakers are 10-8 on the season after taking 2-of-3 games against Asbury last weekend. The Yellow Jackets are 13-2 overall coming off of an 11-5 defeat against Alleghany (Pa.).
The Coaches: Tony Vittorio, who formerly led the University of Dayton's baseball program for 18 seasons, enters his fourth season as Wilmington's head coach. For the first time in nearly a decade in 2021, the Quakers didn't finish 10th in the OAC, turning in an eighth-place finish with a 10-24 conference mark. Baldwin Wallace is under direction of head coach Brian Harrison who enters his 12th year with the program.
The Hitters: The Quakers are led by a quartet of hitters all batting over .350 with 60+ at-bats: Evan Kelsey, Jesse Reliford, Caleb Scott and Jared Lammert. Kelsey leads the team in hits (35) and stolen bases (13) with Scott sporting a .441 average and team leading 22 runs-batted-in. Relliford leads the team in runs with 27 scored and Lammert claims a .500 on base percentage with almost 70 at bats. The Yellow Jackets have a slugger duo combining for 9 home-runs and 36 runs-batted-in - Alex Ludwick and Luke Vonderhaar - with both slugging over .750 early this season.
The Pitchers: Aaron Boster leads the Quakers in innings pitched with 31¹⁄³ innings and claims a 3.73 earned run average with a 2-2 record on the hump. Reliford has been lights out for the squad as a closer as he has 2 saves and a 1.50 earned run average as well as a 2-0 record to top it off. The Yellow Jackets have a trio of pitchers with a 1.50 earned run average or lower in 10+ innings pitched - Dawson Gabe, Nik Bladis and Drew Wilson - and all three are unbeaten on the season.
Series History: Wilmington has played Baldwin Wallace 25 times since 2007 and has a 2-23 record in as many games.
