Men's Lacrosse to Close Out the Season at Heidelberg

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team heads on its final road trip of the 2021 seasonat Heidelberg University on Saturday. First face-off is slated for 1 p.m. Both teams are winless in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) to this point in the season. Wilmington leads the stats in goals scored and in shooting percentages, but Heidelberg leads the ground game in both ground balls and face-offs.  

The Teams: Wilmington and Heidelberg. The Quakers head into their second game this week, after losing to Capital on Tuesday in a make-up game that was previously canceled due to COVID protocol. Heidelberg is also coming off a loss this week, after traveling to Mount Union on Wednesday. 

The Coaches: Jeff Arneson is in his fourth year leading the Wilmington men's lacrosse program. Prior to leading the Quakers to a 5-9 record two seasons ago, Arneson, a Wilmington High School alumnus, spent six seasons as head coach at Thiel College (Pennsylvania). Bill Schmoldt is the first and only Head Coach the Student Princes have ever had. Coming from the high school ranks, Schmoldt started the program back in 2015-2016, and is now in his sixth season in Tiffin.  

The Players: Austin Young leads the way for the Quakers scoring 11 goals in his 12 games played, Justen Shaw leads the team assists and Reed Beavers is still at the top of the OAC in number of saves.  Liam Weaver remains the go-to player for Heidelberg with 12 goals on the year along with 8 assists. 

Series History: Wilmington leads the series 2-1 as this will only be the fourth meeting between the two programs. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
