Men's Lacrosse Hosts ONU in Last Home Contest of the Season

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team (0-10) hosts its last home game of the 2021 season this Saturday at Williams Stadium. First faceoff against Ohio Northern University (ONU) is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Ohio Northern. The Fightin' Quakers are coming off their best two starts of the year, holding their opponent to only seven goals in the first period and averaging only 3.5 goals against them. ONU is coming off a close one after losing to Baldwin Wallace University 9-7. Wilmington has been fairly consistent, keeping their shooting percentage in the low- 20's. Their number of ground ball wins has gone up to 165, as they continue to increase their shots on goal. ONU has a shot percentage is similar at 22.8%. They have controlled the ground game well, winning 308 ground balls so far and winning just over half of their face-off attempts.    

The Coaches: Jeff Arneson is in his fourth year leading the Wilmington men's lacrosse program. Prior to leading the Quakers to a 5-9 record two seasons ago, and a 4-0 start before the season was cancelled due to COVID19 protocol. Arneson, a Wilmington High School alumnus, spent six seasons as head coach at Thiel College (Pennsylvania). Nat St. Laurent is the only head coach ONU has known. Now in his sixth season, St. Laurent started the program back in 2016.

The Players: Reed Beavers enters his last home game number one in saves after shielding off 15 shots on Wednesday in their loss to Muskingum. The junior goalkeeper currently has 155 saves, keeping at the top for just over a week now. He will be challenged by ONU's Cameron Marous, who has 37 total points with 14 goals and 23 assists on the year.
