Men's Lacrosse Begins Final Week of Season at Capital on Tuesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team (0-11) enters into its last week of play in the Ohio Athletic Conference this week as the Fightin' Quakers will travel to Columbus on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. Wilmington is coming off a 25-5 loss at home on Saturday against an ONU team sitting in the middle of the pack in the OAC also with six wins and five losses. Capital comes into the week with only two wins the month of April, followed by a close loss to Baldwin Wallace at home 15-13. Wilmington continues its consistency with a shooting percentage in the low twenty's. Their number of ground ball wins has gone up to 169, as they continue to increase their shots on goal. Capital has a shot percentage is similar at 28.1%. 305 ground ball wins so far for Capital and they are winning just over half of their face-off attempts.    

The Coaches: Jeff Arneson is in his fourth year leading the Wilmington men's lacrosse program. Prior to leading the Quakers to a 5-9 record two seasons ago, and a 4-0 start before the season was cancelled due to COVID19 protocol. Arneson, a Wilmington High School alumnus, spent six seasons as head coach at Thiel College (Pennsylvania). Dom Marzano continues to lead Capital after leaving Wilmington four years ago. He is currently 36-18 with the Crusaders with a 66.7% success rate.  

The Players: Reed Beavers surpasses Payl Koerbel (2015) for the fourth highest number of saves in a season at Wilmington with 165. He is currently sitting at the top of the charts for saves in the OAC in 2021, and still has two more chances to increase his numbers this week. Austin Young Leads the team in goals and Jonathan Lokey leads the team in assists. CJ Hughes leads Capital with 27 total points posting 13 goals and 14 assists on this season so far. Evan Frund leads the team with 14 goals and Jack Scharner leads the team in assists with 15.   

Series History: This is the eighth meeting between the two programs with Crusaders having won each of the last seven meetings.
