Beavers Adds to His Saves Total in Men's Lacrosse's Loss at Muskingum

*Story by Andy Riesenberg

NEW CONCORD, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team was defeated at Muskingum Wednesday night in its last weekday contest of the season. For the second straight game, the Fightin' Quakers held their opponent to a slow start, not allowing a single goal until well past the mid-way point in the first period. The visitors trailed just 2-0 at the end of the first.

An early Wilmington penalty five minutes into the second period, aided Muskingum as it scored back-to-back goals to put the Muskies up by four. The hosts went on to score three more in the second and started to pull away going up 7-0 at the halfway point in the game.

Muskingum started the second half with two goals in the first two minutes, and then added five more by the time the third period ended. Austin Young did net two goals late for Wilmington in the fourth period, but it was two, too little, too late as Muskingum took the 16-2 win.

Reed Beavers added 15 saves to his resume, keeping the Quaker goalkeeper at the top of the leaderboard in the Ohio Athletic Conference with 155. Trevor Connolly did have five saves on five shots. Josh Fletcher was the top point scorer with four goals and four assists for the Muskies.

Wilmington is back in action against Ohio Northern University for last home game of the season on Saturday. First face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
