GAME PROGRAM
WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team is finally back in action after their long hiatus due to the COVID-19 breakout a year ago. They begin the 2021 season hosting Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) rival Capital this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Stadium. This lacrosse season, like all other sports this spring, will only consist of games against other OAC teams as we continue to put the safety and well-being of the athletes first.
The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Fightin' Quakers started off last season with a 3-0 record and look to pick up where they left off. They averaged over 11 goals a game, but even more impressive, held their opponents to only seven. Capital started off the 2020 season with a 2-3 record and averaging 10.8 goals a game, however the Crusaders gave up 61 goals.
The Coaches: Jeff Arneson is in his fourth year leading the Wilmington men's lacrosse program. Prior to leading the Quakers to a 5-9 record two seasons ago, Arneson, a Wilmington High School alumnus, spent six seasons as head coach at Thiel College (Pennsylvania). He will be facing off against Dom Marzano, also in his fourth season at Capital, after starting the program here at Wilmington eight years ago. His Crusaders are coming off their best complete season in 2019, where they went 15-2 and won the OAC Regular Season at 9-0.
The Players: With graduating Connor Judge, Andrew Miller, Jadon Flannery and Zac Chutca, Wilmington will be looking for new leaders in 2021. Austin Young and Justen Shaw will be the ones to watch in this new campaign, after helping contribute to the success of last years seniors. Capital graduated 10 from last years team. However, they do return their best player in CJ Hughes. CJ (a fifth-year senior) set career highs and led the team with 63 goals, 31 assists and 94 points.
