Men's Lacrosse Hosts Mount Union this Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team hosts Mount Union this Saturday in Williams Stadium for its penultimate home game of the season. Faceoff is slated for 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Mount Union. Wilmington returns to action after having not played since last Saturday when they suffered a loss at top seeded John Carroll in Cleveland with a record of 0-8.  Mount Union (5-3) comes to Wilmington on a two-game winning streak after beating Capital and Muskingum on two separate Wednesday night games. The Fightin' Quakers increased their shooting percentage to 21% and their number of ground ball wins to 119, they even increased face-off percentage to 21% as well. Mount Union has a shot percentage of 26% scoring 89 goals on 189 attempts. They have scooped up 291 ground balls so far and won over 62% of their face-off attempts and committing 196 turnovers.    

The Coaches: Jeff Arneson is in his fourth year leading the Wilmington men's lacrosse program. Prior to leading the Quakers to a 5-9 record two seasons ago, and a 4-0 start before the season was cancelled due to COVID19 protocol. Arneson, a Wilmington High School alumnus, spent six seasons as head coach at Thiel College (Pennsylvania). Brian Stewart is in his eighth season as Mount Union's head coach. He came also spent time at his alma mater, Limestone, as well as five years with the United States Navy.

The Players: Reed Beavers takes the top spot for saves, halting his attackers 122 times so far this season. Austin Young continues to lead the team in goals, now shooting at just over 26 percent after his hat trick last weekend in Cleveland. Alek Kungle is in total control for the Raiders. Leading the team with 27 total points, he has 23 goals for the year. Seven more goals than the closest attacker.  

Series History: This is the eighth time these two programs have clashed, and Mount Union has claimed all victories so far.
