Men's Basketball Opens OAC Play at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's basketball team opens its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) slate on Saturday with a trip to Berea to face Baldwin Wallace University. Tip-off from Urpsrung Gymnasium is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Baldwin Wallace (BW). The Quakers enter the matchup with a 3-2 record and looking to rebound after an 81-61 at the hands of Wittenberg University on Wednesday evening. The Yellow Jackets are 2-3 overall and lost their conference opener 99-83 at Heidelberg University on Wednesday. In that game, the Student Princes netted 68 points in the second half alone.

The Coaches: Micah Mills enters his eighth season with the Wilmington men's basketball program with the 2022-23 campaign being his first as head coach. He helped WC to a 17-8 record during the 2018-19 season and came within a game of the program's first OAC regular season championships. Mills, a graduate of Ohio Valley University, spent three seasons as an assistant coach at fellow OAC member Otterbein University before coming to Wilmington. Tom Heil, a 2007 alumnus of Bluffton University, has been BW's head coach since the 2015-16 season. The Yellow Jackets have a 103-73 record during his tenure.

The Players: A duo of Quakers - Abdul Kanu & Obed Achirem - score in double figures with Kanu leading the way at 16.0 points per game. Achirem averages nearly a double-double with 9.2 rebounds a contest while Bryce Bird assists on 2.2 Wilmington baskets a game. Anthony Mazzeo averages 22.6 points per contest for the Yellow Jackets and shoots nearly 40 percent from beyond the three-point arc. Ashton Price chips in 13.8 points per 40 minutes while Jackson Simmons grabs 6.8 rebounds a game.
