Heys Wins Second Event of the Weekend; Quakers Finish Sixth at OAC Indoor Championships

(NEW CONCORD, Ohio) – It was the final day of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships for the Wilmington men's track & field team. The Quakers finished the meet in sixth place with a team score of 56 points.

The Quakers scored a total of 18 points on day two and were led by a Simon Heys win in the 3000 Meter Run with a time of 8:28.95 for 10 points. He just made it past John Carroll University's Tommy Naiman, who ran an 8:29.45. This was his second win of the championships after taking the 5000 Meter Run title yesterday. He was named the OAC Distance Runner of the Meet.

Finishing third and scoring six points in the High Jump for Wilmington was Brady Vilvens, with a cleared height of 1.98 meters. Ohio Northern University's Tyrese Barker also cleared 1.98 but did so one attempt earlier than Vilvens to claim second place. This height was a season best clearance for Vilvens. He also just missed out on scoring in the Triple Jump, finishing ninth with a jump of 12.59m.

The final scorer for Wilmington was in the Shot Put, where Justin Shuga scored two points after a mark of 14.56m on his first throw gave him seventh place.

What's Up Next

The Quakers head to Alliance, Ohio next weekend for their last chance at gathering qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships. They compete in the Mount Union Final Qualifier on Friday and Saturday.
