Borgan and Vilvens Win Events in Quakers Third Place Finish at Cedarville

(CEDARVILLE, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's track & field team continued their impressive start to their 2023-24 indoor season Friday at the Cedarville Collegiate Invite. The Quakers finished in third place out of 16 teams with a team score of 56 points. This is their second top-three finish in their three scored meets this season.

Leading Wilmington in scoring was the trio of Nathen Borgan, Justin Shuga, and Brady Vilvens, who all provided 10 points for the Quakers. In all, the team had seven individuals score points, along with the 4x400 relay team.

In his lone event of the day, the Weight Throw, Borgan had a huge throw. He won the event with a mark of 18.59m on his only throw where he didn't foul. This lapped his nearest competitor by 0.74 meters. Borgan earned his second win in the weight throw this season. This is a career best mark for Borgan which lands him at ninth in all of Division III this season.

Wilmington finished with four out of the top-five finishers in the weight throw. Jarrett Durr scored his eight points on the day with a second-place finish at 17.85m, while Justin Shuga finished behind him at 17.05m. Nate Marcum rounded out the Quakers dominance with a fifth-place finish and a mark of 16.23m as Wilmington finished with a whopping 28 points in the event.

Shuga concluded his day with four more points in the Shot Put to give him his 10 total points. He finished fifth with a toss of 14.25m. Mike Soltis scored five points in the shot put for Wilmington, finishing just ahead of Shuga in fourth with a mark of 14.60m on his final attempt.

The final 10-point scorer for Wilmington was Brady Vilvens, who won the High Jump with a clearance of 1.92m on his final jump before failing at 2.02m. This is Vilvens second win in the high jump so far this indoor season. Gabe Moore also scored six points for the Quakers with a time of 16:21.38 in the 5000 Meter Run that netted him third place and six points.

The 4x400 Relay team also had three points for Wilmington. The team consisted of Donovan Mosley, Samuel Alexander, Omar Beckley, and Noah Paxton, as they finished eighth with a time of 3:52.69. This time is a season-best in the event for the Quakers.

What's Up Next

The team is right back in competition next Friday and Saturday in Allendale, Michigan for the GVSU Big Meet hosted by Grand Valley State University.
