Men's Track & Field Takes Fifth at Otterbein Twilight Meet

(WESTERVILLE, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's track & field team had Nathen Borgan and Noah Tobin compete today in the Jesse Owens Classic, hosted by the Ohio State University.

The rest of the team competed at the Otterbein Twilight meet this afternoon, hosted by Otterbein University. They finished 5th out of 17 teams at Otterbein with 64.5 points. This is their sixth Top-5 performance as a team between the indoor and outdoor seasons.

At Ohio State, Borgan finished third in the Hammer Throw and broke his school record with a mark of 63.55m. He was the top Division III finisher and continues to increase his mark, which is the second best in the country this season. Tobin just missed out on a personal best in the 5,000 Meter Run, as he crossed the finish line in 14:57.88 for a 29th place finish. He also was the top Division III finisher in the event.

In the Otterbein meet, Justin Shuga led the Quakers with 24 points, as he was solid once again in three different events. His best finish of the day was a victory in the Hammer Throw, with a career best toss of 55.13m on his second attempt for 10 points. He won the event by over three meters. He was second in the Discus Throw at 41.93m on his fifth throw for eight points. Shuga took third in the Shot Put with a mark of 14.32m in his second and third attempts for six points.

Also winning events for Wilmington and scoring 10 points were Brady Vilvens and the Quakers 4x400m Relay team of Dane Klosterman, Noah Paxton, Donovan Mosley, and Samuel Alexander.

Vilvens cleared the height of 2.05m on his second attempt to win the event before failing at 2.08m, which was his National Championship winning height last spring. His clearance of 2.05m ties him for ninth in Division III this season.

The 4x400m Relay team won with a time of 3:32.85 for 10 points, as they just edged out Marietta College, who finished in 3:34.32.

Nate Marcum hit 51.97m on his final attempt in the Hammer Throw for second place and eight points for the Quakers.  

Joel O'Brien set a career best mark of 46.10m in the Javelin Throw on his last attempt. He finished third in the event for six points. Also scoring six points was the 4x100m Relay team which consisted of Klosterman, Paxton, Mosley, and Omar Beckley. They finished third with a time of 44.41 seconds.

The final scorer for Wilmington was Carson Miles, who grabbed half a point in the High Jump with a clearance of 1.81m to tie for eighth place. Miles and Jahi McDonald of Wright State University cleared 1.81m on their first attempt before failing at 1.86m.

Wilmington has next weekend off before traveling to Tiffin, Ohio for the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Outdoor Championships on May 2nd and May 3rd.
