Men's Track & Field Has Solid Performance at Steemer Showcase

(SPRINGFIELD, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's track & field team competed at the Steemer Showcase Saturday, hosted by Wittenberg University. The Quakers finished in 10th place with a team score of 28.

Wilmington's top scorers were Justin Shuga and Brady Vilvens, who both captured seven points for the team. Shuga competed in both the Shot Put and Weight Throw for Wilmington. He finished fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 18.10m, which is a career best throw for him. He scored five points in that event before a seventh-place finish in the shot put (14.42m) netted him two more points.

Vilvens scored six points in the high jump with an indoor best clearance of 1.97m that came on his final attempt at that height. He also picked up a point in the triple jump with a mark of 12.46m.

The Quakers 4x200 relay team of Samuel Alexander, Omar Beckley, Donovan Mosley, and Noah Paxton finished third with a time of 1:36.55 to score six points.

The throwing duo of Nathan Borgan and Jarrett Durr scored four points apiece for Wilmington. Borgan's lone event was the weight throw where he posted a personal best toss of 17.85m to finish fifth and score four points. Durr competed in the Shot Put and the Weight Throw. He was sixth in the weight throw at 17.26m for three points and eighth in the shot put at 14.26m for one point.

Gabe Moore picked up a win in his heat of the 3000 Meter Run with a time of 9:22.80 that was good for 60th overall. The Quakers also had a few 10th place event finishes to just miss out on scoring more team points.

What's Up Next

The Quakers have next week off before traveling to Allendale, Michigan for a meet at NCAA Division II Grand Valley State University on Friday, February 9th and Saturday, February 10th.
