WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's basketball team scored the first six points of the game, but the University of Mount Union answered with a 37-5 run over a 10-minute span to earn an 85-71 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory at Fred Raizk Arena on Friday afternoon.

The Purple Raiders turned the ball over on their first three possessions that resulted in baskets from Obed Achirem and Noah Dado to go along with two free throws from Jeffery Mansfield. Mount Union Head Coach Mike Fuline called timeout, and his team responded with that run that effectively ended the game. Mount Union, which led 53-24 at halftime, maintained that advantage as an Adam Chaney dunk made the score 89-60 with just over six minutes to play. That would be the visitors' last basket of the game as the Fightin' Quakers scored the contest's final 11 points.

Mount Union essentially shot its percentage from the year (51.4 percent) from the field, making 36-of-70 to go along with a 12-of-24 (50.0 percent) performance from distance. The Purple Raiders won the rebounding battle 46-34 and dished out 22 assists. Wilmington made 26-of-68 (38.2 percent) from the field and 6-of-21 (28.6 percent) from beyond the three-point arc.

Individually, Christian Parker, who also had eight rebounds, two assists and three steals, and Ethan Stanislawski made at least eight field goals and scored 20 points. Darrell Newsom, Christian Painter Jr. and Adam Chaney also scored in double figures. Achirem led Wilmington with a career-high 19 points, four rebounds and six steals while Travis Mitchell added a career-best 13 points off the bench.

Wilmington (2-7, 0-4 OAC) will return to action with the Mount Union Holiday Classic on Dec. 29-30. The Quakers will face Lycoming College and Geneva College in said classic.
