Hot Start Gives No. 2 Marietta Win Over Men's Basketball on Senior Day

WILMINGTON, Ohio – Marietta College, ranked No. 2 in the most recent D3Hoops.com Top 25 Poll, held the Wilmington College men's basketball team to one field goal in the first 15-plus minutes of the game in a wire-to-wire 77-46  Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contest at Fred Raizk Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The game marked the final regular season weekend contest for three seniors – Grant Mihalick, Collmann Aaron and Anthony Freeman.

The Pioneers scored the first 13 points of the game and continued a torrid three-point shooting pace to build a 33-5 advantage with five minutes to play in the first half. When the buzzer for halftime sounded, Marietta had hit 10 triples and led 44-9. The Fightin' Quakers would not get within 30 points in the second half.

The Pioneers finished the game 28-of-62 (45.2 percent) from the field to go along with 12-of-31 (38.7 percent) from distance while the Quakers finished 17-of-56 (30.4 percent) overall and just 2-of-24 (8.3 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. Marietta also dished out 17 assists and held a 41-31 rebounding edge.

Individually, Jason Ellis and Cooper Parrott finished with 19 and 18 points respectively with Ellis dishing out five assists and Parrott grabbing a team-best seven rebounds. Jeffery Mansfield had a dozen points with five rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Quakers. Todd Larkin added nine points off the bench.

Wilmington will finish its 2021-22 regular season hosting Otterbein University on Wednesday and traveling to John Carroll University on Saturday.
