Men's Basketball Looks to Rebound with Wednesday Trip to ONU

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's basketball team looks to notch its first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory at Ohio Northern University on Wednesday evening. Tip-off from the ONU Sports Center is slated for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Ohio Northern (ONU). The Fightin' Quakers are 2-4 overall and 0-1 on OAC play after a 78-66 defeat at the hands of Baldwin Wallace University at Fred Raizk Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears are 4-2 overall, but also 0-1 in conference play after a 94-59 loss at nationally-ranked Marietta College on Saturday.

The Coaches: K.C. Hunt is in his 15th season as head coach of Wilmington's men's basketball program. Hunt, who has coached two All-Americans and seven of the school's 1,000-point scorers, led the Quakers to OAC Tournament titles in 2010 and 2014. He garnered Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honors for guiding Wilmington to OAC Tournament title and a win in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2010. Rich Bensman is in his 10th season with the ONU men's basketball program including his sixth as head coach.

The Players: Jeffery Mansfield, a two-time First Team All-OAC selection, leads Wilmington in scoring at 14.7 points per game while assisting on nearly five (4.8) other baskets per 40 minutes. The Wilmington High School alumnus is second to Obed Achirem's 10.6 boards per contest in rebounding at 6.5 per game. Bilal Sow is the other individual to score in double figures as the sophomore averages 12.5 points per contest. A trio of Quakers - Jayden Lewis, Achirem and Collmann Aaron - score at least seven points a game. A quartet of Polar Bears - Landen Long, C.J. Napier, Adam Scott and Brandon Waugh - score between 11-14 points per game. 

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 68.5, ONU 72.8; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 68.7, ONU 78.2; field goal percentage – Wilmington 37.4, ONU 44.6; three-point percentage – Wilmington 30.7, ONU 33.3; free throw percentage – Wilmington 72.0, ONU 67.4; rebounding margin – Wilmington -3.2, ONU +2.5; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 1.05, ONU 1.00.
