Volleyball Concludes Hanover Invitational with Pair of Defeats

HANOVER, Indiana – The Wilmington College volleyball team fell to two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) foes to conclude the Hanover Invitational on Saturday. Both Franklin College and host Hanover College defeated the Fightin' Quakers in straight sets with the Grizzlies winning by a score of 25-20, 25-23, 25-22 while the Panthers claimed a 25-16, 25-17, 25-8 win in the nightcap.

In the match with Franklin, the Grizzlies used a 7-2 run with the set tied 12-12 to eventually win set one 25-20. In set two, a service run from Sydney Geibel late gave the Quakers a 23-22 lead, but an attack error and consecutive kills from Miranda Wilson gave Franklin the set. Set three saw Wilmington build a 15-12 advantage off a service run from Blake O'Brien, but Franklin rallied to close out the match in straight sets.

Sofia Thomas and Victoria Long both finished with double-digits in kills and also hit over a .270 attack percentage. Andie Dolven tallied 31 assists while O'Brien, who was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Grizzlies were led by Wilson's dozen kills. Billie Jarrett finished with 27 assists for Franklin.

In the match with Hanover, the Panthers heated up offensively as the match went on, hitting .195 in the first set, .316 in the second and .500 in the third set to take the victory.

Joy Bebe led the Quakers in kills with six and attack percentage at .500 while Dolven assisted on 25-of-26 kills. O'Brien finished with 15 digs to lead the back row.

Adrianne Vance tallied 14 kills for Hanover while Ella Reed added nine and Maddie Edwards seven. Kelsey Ketcham dished out 14 assists while Maura Dankoski added three soli blocks.

Wilmington (2-11) hosts Bluffton University on Wednesday.
