Volleyball Defeated at Wooster in Straight Sets

WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster hit over a .200 clip in each set while holding the Wilmington College volleyball team to under that mark in all three sets of a 25-18, 25-13, 26-24 non-conference victory on Wednesday evening.

Wooster hit a blistering .577 clip in the first set, putting down 16 kills with just a single error on 26 swings. The hosts cooled off in the second set, but Wilmington, for the first time this season, hit a negative attack percentage in a set and fell behind 2-0.

The Scots looked to close the third set out like the first two by going up 5-1 early, but a service run from Cierra Bolender flipped a four-point deficit (9-5) into a two-point advantage (11-9). Both teams went back and forth for the rest of the set with neither team leading by more than three points. Wilmington took a 19-16 advantage, and after losing three straight points, the Quakers regained a 23-21 advantage on a kill from Sydney Geibel and a Wooster attack error. The hosts then delivered the knockout punch, closing out the third set and the match by winning 5-of-6 points.

Christina Yarian led Wilmington with seven kills and a .455 attack percentage. Andi Dolven dished out 17 assists while Blake O'Brien had a dozen digs. The Fighting Scot duo of Hayley Nash and Seven Townsel combined for 21 kills.

Wilmington (2-2) heads to Mount St. Joseph University for four matches this weekend.
