Volleyball Opens OAC Play With Tri-Match Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team opens Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a tri-match on Saturday including Heidelberg University and Adrian College (Michigan).

The Schedule: Wilmington will host Heidelberg at 1 p.m. and face Adrian at 5 p.m. Heidelberg and Adrian will play a match scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington, Heidelberg and Adrian. The Fightin' Quakers enter the matches with a 3-14 overall record after falling to West Virginia State University and Central State University in straight sets on Wednesday. The Student Princes are 9-5 on the season, but looking to rebound after a five-set loss at the University of Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday. The Bulldogs are 4-11 on the season and looking to snap a four-match losing skid.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived Sophie Windover, a former collegiate player and assistant at Heidelberg University, takes over as head coach. She helped guide the Student Princes to a 21-8 record and an appearance in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. Jason Miller is in his 22nd season as Heidelberg's head coach. He also serves as Berg's associate director of athletics. David Kwan has coached Adrian's program for a decade.

The Players: Sofia Thomas leads Wilmington offensively with a 2.51 kills per set average. Three other Quakers – Sydney Geibel, Victoria Long, Joy Bebe – put down 1.50 kills per set. Setter Andie Dolven runs Wilmington's 5-1 offense to the tunes of 7.47 assists per set while Blake O'Brien, WC's libero, leads the back row averaging over five digs per set. Heidelberg is led by a duo of Maddie Szawranskyj and Liana Petitti, both of which who average over 2.45 kills per set while Hailey Farrell dishes out over eight assists per set for the Bulldogs.

Series History: Wilmington is 0-12 against Heidelberg and 0-1 against Adrian since the 2008 season. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
