WILMINGTON, Ohio – Ohio Northern University, ranked No. 14 in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Poll, swept the Wilmington College volleyball team 25-17, 25-21, 25-8 in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) match at Hermann Court on Wednesday evening.

Set one was even through 18 points as a Christiana Yarian kill tied the match 9-9, but the Polar Bears scored 9-of-12 points to pull away. In set two, the most competitive of the three, ONU raced out to an 8-3 lead, forcing First-Year Head Coach Sophie Windover to call timeout. The visitors would go on to lead by as many as nine (13-4), but service runs from Andie Dolven and Macee Hamilton got the hosts back within three points at 17-14. The Quakers couldn't get closer, however, as both teams traded side outs from a 22-19 score.

Set three began with both teams scoring three points each, but Rachel Jennings served a dozen straight points up for ONU to put the match away.

The Polar Bears hit a .245 clip as a team along with seven service aces and seven team blocks. The Quakers were held to a negative attack percentage and had two blocks, with Yarian being involved in both (one solo and one assist).

Individually, Taylor Baxter led everyone with 11 kills and a .550 attack percentage while Melina Woods and Erin Wagner both had seven kills for the Polar Bears. Kiki Carle and Grace Conrad combined for 28 assists for ONU while Jennings had 17 digs.

For Wilmington, Sydney Geibel had a team-best six kills and was one of four Quakers to hit a positive attack percentage. Dolven assisted on 14-of-17 team kills while Sofia Thomas and Trinity VanDusen both had double-digit dig performances.

Wilmington continues OAC play at Marietta College on Saturday.
