Final Regular Season Road Trip for Women's Basketball Set for Saturday at Marietta

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team heads to Marietta College for the final road game of the season on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Marietta. The Quakers enter the contest 13-9 overall and 7-8 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) games after tripping up 59-46 at Muskingum University on Wednesday evening. The Pioneers are 16-6 overall and 11-4 in league games having most recently defeated the University of Mount Union 56-44 on the road on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Wilmington is under the direction of third-year Head Coach Janel Blankespoor, who is in her fourth season with the program having been interim coach during the 2020-21 season and the program's top assistant the two years prior. The 2007 Otterbein College alumna spent stints at Mount Union and Earlham College before coming to Wilmington. Kole Vivian has led Marietta to 109 victories and just 55 defeats in his six-plus years as head coach. The 2008 alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point spent the previous four years as the Pioneers' top assistant coach.

The Players: Four Quakers - Kennedy Lewis, Jada Pohlen, Zahrya Bailey and Marisa Seiler - score at least eight points a game with Lewis leading the team at a dozen points per game. Pohlen, who led the team in scoring with 16 points at Muskingum, scores 9.8 points per contest while Seiler and Lewis both grab over five rebounds per game. Lewis dishes out three assists per game while Cassidy Lovett is on of the top in the conference in steals at two per game. A trio of Pioneers - Olivia Gribble, Devin Hefner and Erin Hahn - score over 8.5 points per game with Hahn leading the squad in rebounding at nine boards a contest. 

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 61.5, Marietta 62.5; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 57.8, Marietta 55.7; field goal percentage – Wilmington 37.1, Marietta 35.5; three-point percentage – Wilmington 25.6, Marietta 28.1; free throw percentage – Wilmington 71.5, Marietta 65.9; rebounding margin – Wilmington +0.8, Marietta +8.1; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.71, Marietta 0.80.

Recent History: Wilmington is 35-11 against Marietta since joining the OAC prior to the 2000-01 season. The Pioneers won the previous meeting this season 66-63 in come-from-behind fashion. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
