Women's Basketball Travels to Capital on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a 7 p.m. game at Capital University on Wednesday. 

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Quakers enter the game with an 11-8 overall record and a 5-7 OAC record after a 61-47 victory at Heidelberg University on Saturday afternoon. The Comets are 12-7 on the season and 6-6 conference mark after a pair of road defeats at Muskingum University and at John Carroll University. 

The Coaches: Wilmington is under the direction of third-year Head Coach Janel Blankespoor, who is in her fourth season with the program having been interim coach during the 2020-21 season and the program's top assistant the two years prior. The 2007 Otterbein College alumna spent stints at Mount Union and Earlham College before coming to Wilmington. Camille McPherson, a Moravian College alumna who served as Capital's interim head coach for 16 games of the 2021-22 campaign, was named the program's permanent head coach on March 16, 2022.

The Players: Fifth-year senior Kennedy Lewis leads Wilmington scoring at 12.6 points per game and also assists on 3.2 baskets per contest. A trio of Quakers - Jada Pohlen, Marisa Seiler and Zahrya Bailey - average between 8-10 points per contest with Seiler leading the way in rebounding at 5.9 boards per game. Senior Cassidy Lovett is second in the conference in steals at 2.2 per game. Capital features a three-headed attack as Bri O'Connor, Laney Murphy and Samaree Perkins all score in double figures and combine to score over two-thirds of the team's points. Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 61.8, Capital 60.4; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 58.4, Capital 655.0; field goal percentage – Wilmington 36.9, Capital 37.1; three-point percentage – Wilmington 26.0, Capital 31.2; free throw percentage – Wilmington 73.5, Capital 67.4; rebounding margin – Wilmington +0.7, Capital -1.0; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.72, Capital 0.60.

Recent History: Wilmington is 24-32 against Capital since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s. The Comets defaeted the Quakers 71-58 at Hermann Court earlier this season. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
