Women's Basketball Looks to Bounce Back Against Marietta

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action with a 4 p.m. contest against Marietta College on Saturday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Marietta. The Quakers enter the contest 8-4 overall and 2-3 in OAC play after a 71-58 defeat to Capital University on Wednesday. The Pioneers are also 8-4, but 3-2 in league contests having defeated Muskingum University 65-49 on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Wilmington is under the direction of third-year Head Coach Janel Blankespoor, who is in her fourth season with the program having been interim coach during the 2020-21 season and the program's top assistant the two years prior. The 2007 Otterbein College alumna spent stints at Mount Union and Earlham College before coming to Wilmington. Kole Vivian has led Marietta to 109 victories and just 55 defeats in his six-plus years as head coach. The 2008 alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point spent the previous four years as the Pioneers' top assistant coach.

The Players: Fifth-year senior Kennedy Lewis leads Wilmington in scoring (13.4 PPG), rebounding (5.8 RPG) and assists (3.2 APG) and is coming off an 18-point performance against Capital. A trio of Quakers - Jada Pohlen, Marisa Seiler and Zahrya Bailey - score nearly seven points per contest with Seiler joining Lewis in grabbing over five rebounds per game. Erin Hahn and Olivia Gribble score in double figures for Marietta with Hahn also leading the squad in rebounding at 8.4 boards per contest.Devin Hefner and Hannah Schill have combined for 51 assists on the season.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 60.9, Marietta 62.8; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 56.7, Marietta 57.8; field goal percentage – Wilmington 34.7, Marietta 36.7; three-point percentage – Wilmington 24.4, Marietta 28.0; free throw percentage – Wilmington 77.3, Marietta 66.5; rebounding margin – Wilmington +2.6, Marietta +7.5; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.70, Marietta 0.80.

Recent History: Wilmington is 35-10 against Marietta since joining the OAC prior to the 2000-01 season. The Pioneers, however, are 6-4 in the last 10 meetings. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
